GREENING THE OVERSTRAND

On March 12th 2008, SASSI, SASC and the Overstrand Conservation Foundation (OCF) launched the Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI) through a restaurant participation workshop led by Timony Siebert of SASSI/WWF.

In a disppointing turnout, only 9 of 25 invited restaurants attended the workshop.  SASC applauds those restaurants who attended and thanks those restaurant owners who also brought along their chefs and managers.

SASC believes that sustainable and "green" practices will play a leading role in the continued recognition of the Overstrand Region as an eco-tourism destination and hotspot, and we believe that those restaurants who attended the workshop share our vision.

You can help ensure the sustainability of our marine resources by eating at restaurants which serve sustainable seafood.  To eat sustainable seafood in Hermanus, visit the following restaurants:

Europa Coffee Shop & Restaurant
Incredible Fish
Jimmy's Killer Prawns
Mediterrea Restaurant
Rossi's Restaurant
The Barefoot Cook
The Harbour Rock
The Marine Hotel
Quayside Cabin
