EDUCATION & OUTREACH

COMBINING SCIENCE AND EDUCATION

Our education and outreach initiatives are science-based, ensuring we provide our visitors and education groups with unparalleled insight into the secret world of sharks. We pride ourselves on experiential, hands-on educational programming. Education groups can book special tours of the Shark Lab or can even book special shark tagging trips with our research team.

 SHARK LAB TOURS

The SASC team works tirelessly to promote better understanding of sharks, engaging with local communities, students, special education groups, and our global social media platform. Our goals are to dispel myths about sharks, cultivate a sense of stewardship for the oceans and grow conservation-conscious communities around the world.

VISIT THE SHARK LAB

The Shark Lab is situated in the Old Harbour of the Old Harbour Museum. We specialise in organised educational tours for schools and bookings for tour operators can be made. Guided tours of the Shark Lab are available on weekdays at 10am and 2pm, although we recommend you book in advance just in case we are in the field. An entrance fee of R100pp is applicable. All fees support our research and shark husbandry program.

THE SHARK BOOTCAMP

We provide a range of awesome activities for kids (and adults!) of all ages. All group activities at the Shark Lab are designed to give a unique and hands-on educational experience. Chat with our scientists, meet our sharks and be engaged! Group tours must be arranged in advance.
